Privacy Policy
Last updated: 20 October 2026
The short version: we collect your email address so we can tell you about Masala Man. We don't sell it, we don't share it for other people's marketing, and you can unsubscribe or ask us to delete it at any time. Masala Man is made for a mature audience and isn't aimed at children.
1. Who we are
This website (masalaman.tv) is run by "the Masala Man team" ("we", "us"), an independent, non-commercial creative project based in New South Wales, Australia. We are not currently a registered company.
Contact for all privacy matters:
Email: privacy@masalaman.tv
Post: The Masala Man team, Sydney NSW 2000, Australia
2. Who this policy covers
This policy applies to everyone who visits the site, wherever you are. We aim to follow the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (including the Australian Privacy Principles) and the Spam Act 2003, and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 (and its Rules) and the Information Technology Act 2000, as they apply to us.
3. What we collect
- Your email address, when you type it into one of our sign-up forms. This is the only personal information you give us directly.
- Basic technical data that our hosting provider records automatically when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, pages requested and the date and time. This is used for security and keeping the site running.
- Messages you send us, if you email us (your address and whatever you write).
We do not ask for payment details, government ID numbers (such as Aadhaar, PAN or tax file numbers), or any sensitive information, and you should not send them to us.
4. Why we collect it
- To send you news, release updates and other emails about Masala Man, which is the reason you signed up.
- To confirm your subscription and manage unsubscribes.
- To keep the site secure, stop spam and abuse, and fix problems.
- To reply when you contact us.
We will only use your information for these purposes, or for a closely related purpose you would reasonably expect, unless you agree otherwise or the law requires it.
5. Consent and unsubscribing
We only email you if you have signed up. By submitting your email address you consent to receiving Masala Man emails and to this policy. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and we remove you promptly when you use it. You can withdraw your consent at any time, as easily as you gave it, by unsubscribing or emailing privacy@masalaman.tv.
6. Who we share it with
We do not sell or rent your information. We use a small number of service providers who handle data on our behalf, only to run the site and send our emails:
- Email service provider (currently planned to be Kit, formerly ConvertKit) to store sign-ups and send emails.
- Cloudflare for website hosting, delivery and security.
- YouTube (Google) if you watch or interact with embedded videos or Shorts. Google may set its own cookies and collect data under its own privacy policy.
If our email provider changes, we will update this page. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
7. Overseas storage
Our service providers operate globally and are likely to store or process data in the United States and other countries. By using the site you understand your information may leave Australia or India. We choose providers that have reasonable security and privacy commitments, and we take reasonable steps to make sure they handle your information in line with this policy.
8. Cookies and tracking
We do not run advertising trackers or analytics tools on this site. Embedded third-party content (such as YouTube) may use cookies or similar technology under its own policy. You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings.
9. How long we keep it
We keep your email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, after which we remove it from our active lists (a minimal record may be kept to make sure we don't email you again). Server logs are kept by our hosting provider for a short period only.
10. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, including using reputable providers and encrypted (HTTPS) connections. No online system is perfectly secure. If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.
11. Your rights
Whether you are in Australia, India or elsewhere, you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you and give you a copy;
- correct information that is wrong or out of date;
- delete your information, and stop emailing you;
- withdraw consent you've given; and
- nominate another person to exercise your rights for you (a right under Indian law).
Email privacy@masalaman.tv. We may need to confirm it's really you, and we aim to respond within 30 days.
12. Complaints and grievances
If you have a concern, please contact us first at privacy@masalaman.tv. This address is also our grievance contact for the purposes of Indian law. We will acknowledge your complaint and aim to resolve it within 30 days.
- Australia: if you're not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au. For unwanted marketing messages, you can also contact the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA).
- India: once it is operating, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India after first raising the issue with us.
13. Children
Masala Man is satire made for a mature audience. The site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you are under 18, please don't subscribe. If you think a child has given us their details, email us and we will delete them.
14. Changes to this policy
This project is growing, and so will this policy. When we make changes we will update the date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant we will let subscribers know by email.
